Children’s Liturgy takes place at Our Lady’s Church at the 9.30am Family Mass every Sunday. All children, from babies to around 10 years old, are invited to the Lower Hall for 20 minutes of prayer, readings and activities specially tailored to their age group.
The children, and parents of the younger children, leave church together after the introduction to the Mass and return after the collection as part of the Offertory Procession.
The children prepare for and then listen to the Children’s Bible version of the Gospel of the day after which they break into 2 or 3 groups depending on numbers. The groups are led by parents or Liturgy leaders on a rota basis.
Under 5’s have a bible story from the Old or New Testament followed by songs and backed up with colouring sheets (we also provide crayons to use in the Parish Centre).
5 to 8 years have an activity based on the Gospel which can be anything from a song or quiz to acting out a short play to emphasis particular aspects of the reading. They are always given an activity sheet which can be finished quietly in church.
We also have a group for the older children and those preparing for their 1st Holy Communion. This group meets after enrolment until the end of June. They have a liturgy and of the readings of the day more appropriate to their age. There is also an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an altar server.
